Maybe he’s on OxyContin. OxyContin is gnarly.

To be completely honest, this moment in the second episode when Summer just yells that OxyContin is gnarly completely unprovoked is the one moment I have thought about the most from this show in the eight years since I saw it the first time.
I have so many questions about this, like what is Summer’s experience with OxyContins? What about Ryan’s behavior evokes the sheer gnarliness of being on OxyContin? What is OyContin? (Thinks 16-year-old nerd Drex sitting alone in her bedroom on a Thursday night in the summertime watching a new show on Fox having never worn a bikini to a party in her lifetime.) Why do the show writers want me, 16-year-old nerd Drex, to think OxyContin is gnarly?
Early season one Summer is probably my favorite Summer because she is just half naked and drunk all the time and obnoxious and rude, and why is sympathetic main character Marissa friends with her and sympathetic main character Seth in love with her? She sounds terrible! Later it’s all ruined when there is a poem about a mermaid and whatever she is so adorable, but for now, let’s just savor Summer in all her gnarly OxyContin glory.
